Ideas on Minority Rights

We are currently working on ideas concerning minority rights; the thesis that lies at the heart of minority rights is that contrary to an inclination to assimilate and impose a culture for the sake of a common national identity in the realms of language, religion and ethnicity, in fact leads to the exact opposite, that is, the creation of grievances and tensions that could escalate to violent conflict, demands for greater autonomy and even secession.

Therefore in the interest of stable and sustainable positive relations between communities, and between communities and government, we must go beyond basic equality and non-discrimination and create conditions for minorities where they may enjoy their cultures. This will inevitably lead to an organic process by which tensions are eliminated and a genuine common national identity emerges that accommodates plurality and celebrates diversity.
